Hurricane Dineo

The Meriwether School and Health Center at Zitha village in South Africa is shut down because of extensive infrastructure damage from hurricane Dineo. With reports of intense heavy rains and winds up to 160km/99miles an hour, the storm caused severe damage to the center which feeds, clothes, educates and provides health services to hundreds of poor children daily. The damage includes floods that overcame the organic garden, soil erosion which exposed the building's foundation, septic tank leaks, water borehole pipe damage, the bridges and roads leading to the MeriwetherFoundation Center were washed away and the roof and windows of several classrooms were destroyed. There is currently no water at the center and the children’s program is suspended.
